HC Deb 11 March 1947 vol 434 c175W
Mr. Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for Air why there is such a long period of delay between the recruit training of Radar wireless mechanics and their posting for technical training; and if he will look into the position at Hixon.

Mr. P. Noel-Baker

The delay in posting recruits for training as Radar/Wireless Mechanics has been mainly due to an acute shortage of qualified instructors. We are doing our best to increase the number of instructors, and as we succeed, the delay will be reduced. In the meantime, recruits are posted to units, of which Hixon is one, where they can be given some preliminary training in their future trade. They are held in these units on a roster, and are posted in their proper turn to the technical training schools.
