HC Deb 11 March 1947 vol 434 cc178-80W
Mr. Byers

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster the number of British drivers and clerks who have replaced German drivers and clerks in the British zone of Germany between September,. 1946, and the present date.

Mr. J. Hynd

No British drivers replaced German drivers in this period except possibly in isolated instances. In a very few cases, British clerks now perform duties, which, pending their arrival, had, temporarily been undertaken by Germans.

The general policy is, however, to employ German clerks wherever possible and they now constitute 78 per cent. of the total employed, as against 74 per cent. in September.
