§ 18 Mr. Price-Whiteasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the last course in bricklaying at Marchwiel Ministry of Labour Training Establishment, Wrexham, contained a five-weeks period when bricklaying trainees were engaged in knocking out windows from explosive storage huts; and whether he will arrange for trainees to be given practical instruction on local housing schemes in place of such work.
§ Mr. IsaacsNo, Sir. The trainees were employed on a suitable training exercise of trimming window openings, putting in sills and lintels, and bricking in window frames after holes had been knocked in 147W the walls by labourers. As regards the second part of the Question, arrangements have already been made for building trades trainees to be given training on outside building sites during the last two months of their courses in Government training centres and much useful work on housing schemes is being done in this way. There have been difficulties in making such arrangements for the trainees at Wrexham, who have reached the appropriate stage of training because of the effect of the weather on the progress of building work generally.
