§ 43. Mr. Mikardoasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will indicate the countries of the Middle East for which His Majesty's Government is encouraging irrigation schemes; and when a full statement on the plans will be made.
§ Mr. MayhewThe Governments of all the countries in the Middle East area have to a greater or lesser extent irrigation schemes under active consideration, and our encouragement is given and our assistance is available to all such schemes designed to raise the standard of living of the people. Amongst the more notable are those for flood control and irrigation at present under examination by the Government of Iraq, with the assistance of a team of highly qualified British specialists. The Middle-Eastern States concerned will no doubt publish statements of their plans as soon as final decisions have been taken.
