HC Deb 21 January 1947 vol 432 c29W
Mr. Randall

asked the Minister of Health if he has considered the letter of protest arising from a meeting of ratepayers at Whalley, Lancashire, regarding their water supply; what are the reasons for the protest and what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

Mr. Bevan

I have considered the letter of protest from the Whalley ratepayers. They objected to the quality of the water from their present local source, to a possible reduction in the amount of soft water obtained from the Clitheroe Town Council, and a, a proposed supplementary supply included in the scheme of the Clitheroe Rural District Council, on the grounds that the water is hard and unsatisfactory. The rural district council propose to improve the quality of the water from the present local source, and I am advised that the proposed new supplementary supply will be satisfactory after treatment The town council have stated their willingness to provide additional supplies of their soft water after completion of their proposed new reservoir.
