HC Deb 27 February 1947 vol 433 cc331-2W
123. Mr. P. Wells

asked the Minister of Health if he will make a statement as to the Report of the Committee on Rural Housing and as to the action which the Government intend to take.

Mr. Bevan

Yes, Sir. The report is being published today and I should like to take this opportunity of thanking the Chairman, Sir Arthur Hobhouse and his colleagues for the comprehensive survey which they have made. The recommendations in the report will involve legislation and as the House is aware there will be no Parliamentary time for legislation this Session. However, the Government hope to be in a position to announce their intentions before the end of the Session. Meanwhile, during this year the Government are concentrating all the labour and materials that can be made available on the building of new houses for those without homes of their own.
