§ 8. Mr. Jannerasked the President of the Board of Trade why it is not possible to obtain priority dockets to enable a person whose linen has been stolen, even if underwriters have paid for the loss, to replace the loss; and what steps he proposes to take to remove this hardship.
§ Sir S. CrippsPriority dockets are issued if the number of sheets remaining after a theft is below the standard of312W three sheets for each bed necessarily in use. If my hon. Friend will send me particulars of the case he has in mind I will have it looked into.
§ 9. Mr. Jannerasked the President of the Board of Trade why a single person setting up home for the first time is not entitled to obtain priority dockets for utility linen, furniture, etc.; and if he will take steps to remedy this hardship in appropriate cases.
§ Sir S. CrippsI regret that the supplies available would not meet the substantial expansion of demand which my hon. Friend's proposal would involve. I realise that many single people have good reasons for wanting to set up home, but their needs are normally not so urgent as those of the present priority classes for whom current supplies only just suffice.
