HC Deb 27 February 1947 vol 433 c337W
Mr. Callaghan

asked the Minister of Transport what appeal exists from decisions by the Merchant Navy reserve pool; and if he is aware that a number of corn-plaints are being made about the attitude of those responsible for working the arrangements.

Mr. Barnes

As the Essential Work Order for the Merchant Navy ceased to operate on the 31st December last, there is now no statutory right of appeal, but seamen who are dissatisfied with decisions by reserve pool officials can have their case reviewed by the local reserve pool committee, which is formed of representatives of the shipowners' organisations and the officers' and men's societies. I am not aware that many complaints are being made, but I shall be glad to look into any specific case if my hon. Friend will furnish me with particulars of it.
