HC Deb 24 February 1947 vol 433 cc249-50W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Education what percentage of students doing four years' training courses at the universities and in training departments at the present time hold training grants; and what are the conditions upon which grant-aided students are allowed by special permission to take posts in independent schools.

Mr. Tomlinson

Of the students in the professional year of training at university training departments in the present academic year, 51 per cent, are receiving grants under the Ministry's regulations for the training of teachers. Many of the remainder are receiving grants under the Further Education and Training Scheme for ex-Service students, to which no special conditions are attached. Applications to take posts in independent schools from students receiving grants under the Ministry's regulations for the training of teachers are considered on their individual merits, in relation to the circumstances of the independent school concerned, and the needs of State-aided schools.
