HC Deb 20 February 1947 vol 433 c204W
Mr. Boardman

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether the Committee of Inquiry on Mining Subsidence has yet met; what are the terms of reference; and what bodies or persons will be invited to give evidence.

Mr. Shinwell

The committee held its first meeting on 13th February. Their terms of reference areTo examine the law of support and the problem of damage caused by mining subsidence in the light of the nationalisation of coal and the coalmining industry, and to make recommendations. With regard to the third part of the Question, this is a matter for the committee itself, which I have no doubt is receiving their careful consideration. My hon. Friend may like to communicate direct with their Secretary, Mr. Featherstone-Whitty, at the Ministry of Fuel and Power.
