Lieut.-Commander Hutchisonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will order an inquiry into the circumstances attending the detention and interrogation of Mr. Malcolm Lyle by the police.
§ Mr. WestwoodThe reports which I have obtained show that the police action was taken in the course of inquiries into certain grave offences which had been reported to them, and that the action resulted in the complete exoneration of Mr. Lyle. This was made clear at the time to Mr. Lyle and his father by the police who also expressed their regret for the inconvenience which the police action had caused. After careful consideration of all the circumstances I am satisfied that there is no ground for any action on my part.
