asked the Under-Secretary of State for India how many British officers there were in, or attached to the Indian Army at 1st January, 1947; how many there will be on 1st May, 1947; the number it is now planned to retain at 1st May, 1948; and whether, in giving these figures, he will specify separately the officers with Regular Indian Army commissions and officers with emergency commissions, respectively.

The Government of India have supplied the following estimate. The figures are for 1st April and not for 1st May as requested by the hon. and gallant Member.
