103. Mrs. Patonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what financial provision is made by his Department for the purchase of linen and sewing materials for the use of women in Holloway prison.
§ Mr. EdeGeneral financial provision is made to cover all prison industries, but no figures are readily available to show how much of this is allocated to the items mentioned in the Question. If my hon. Friend has in mind the work done at the evening classes in embroidery and handicrafts at90W Holloway Prison, such classes are started by grants from public funds, and the sale of the work provides funds from which further materials are purchased, so that the classes become self-supporting. The sum of £120 was realised by the sale of embroidery and handicrafts made at Holloway in the last twelve months.
