HC Deb 11 February 1947 vol 433 c43W
85. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the President of the Board of Trade why the Isle of Ely is not included in the distribution area for Government surplus clothing.

Mr. Belcher

Traders have been asked to send the small quantities of demobilisation clothing which have become available only to the main mining areas and to favour the main mining and industrial areas in the distribution of Government surpluses, because these areas are, in general, less well supplied or in greater need than others. Apart from this, Government surplus clothing is distributed as widely as possible by wholesalers and there is no reason why the Isle of Ely should not be getting its share.
