HC Deb 11 February 1947 vol 433 cc37-8W
65. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement concerning the letter addressed to him by Mr. John Snyder, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, which was released to the Press by the British Treasury on 5th February, concerning the policy of His Majesty's Government with regard to their obligations under the financial agreement for the disposal of sterling balances.

Mr. Dalton

I did not receive Mr. Snyder's letter dated 3rst October, 1946, until 27th November, when it was delivered to me personally, by a member of the American Embassy. I circulated in the OFFICIAL REPORT yesterday the full text of this correspondence, to which have nothing to add.
