§ 71. Mr. Gammansasked the Minister of Food what was the value of grapefruit, tinned and fresh, imported from the U.S.A. and the British West Indies, respectively, for the last six months or the most convenient period; and what were the prices per appropriate unit paid to each producing country.
§ Dr. SummerskillThere have been no imports of fresh or tinned grapefruit from U.S.A., but supplies of both have been purchased and negotiations for further supplies are still going forward. In the case of the British West Indies no tinned grapefruit has been imported, but fresh grapefruit to the value of £17,500 were imported from those Colonies during the last six months of 1946. As I have explained on previous occasions, I am not prepared to announce the prices paid for particular purchases.
