HC Deb 04 February 1947 vol 432 cc305-6W
13 and 14. Major Beamish

asked the Minister of Labour (1) how many ex-Service men or women and ex-Merchant Navy men have now passed through the Government training centres and technical colleges, or been trained by specially selected employers; and how many of these have been placed in suitable employment;

(2) how many ex-Service men or women and ex-Merchant Navy men have now applied for training tinder the Government training schemes and are still waiting for a vacancy in the trade chosen; and whether he is now satisfied that the training scheme is adequate.

Mr. Isaacs

26,842 ex-Servicemen or women and ex-Merchant Navy men have now been accepted for training and are awaiting allocation. 22,550 men and women in these classes have completed training and 18,973 of them have already been placed in suitable employment. Action to place the remainder is proceeding. I am satisfied that training arrangements are now adequate to meet present needs of industry.
