HC Deb 04 February 1947 vol 432 c325W
Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for War the latest instructions sent out by the Army Council on the subject of week-end and late passes.

Mr. Bellenger

The present regulations are that any number of periods of short pass leave, each of not more than 48 hours may be granted at the discretion of Commanding Officers. This leave is not necessarily granted at week-ends but may be, if desired. Short passes have been abolished, and a system of signing out has taken their place. The detailed arrangements have been left to the discretion of commanding officers. Unless a man is required for duty during the week-end he is allowed to sign out after duty on Saturday and be free until required for duty on Monday. Men not required for duty are allowed, as a privilege at the discretion of their company commander, to remain out of barracks until they are required for duty on the following day.
