HC Deb 04 February 1947 vol 432 cc314-5W
72. Mr. Lipson

asked the President of the Board of Trade what action he is taking to secure a substantial increase in the trade between this country and the U. S. S. R.

Mr. Belcher

As has been stated on numerous occasions, His Majesty's Government are taking all steps open to them to develop Anglo-Soviet trade on a mutually advantageous basis to the maximum possible extent. My right hon. and learned Friend has had a number of talks with Mr. Klentsov, the Soviet Trade Representative, who is at present on a visit to Moscow. We have also proposed to the Soviet Government that my hon. Friend, the Secretary for Overseas Trade, should go to Moscow in the very near future for further discussions.
