HC Deb 19 December 1947 vol 445 cc431-2W
Mr. Challen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps are being taken to increase the exports of timber to this country from Germany; and whether in view of the large forestry resources of Germany special steps can be taken to increase timber supplies from these sources.

Mr. Mayhew

While we are anxious to import as much timber as possible from Germany, the requirements of the German economy and of other importing countries must be taken into consideration. The felling plan for 1947–48 in the combined zone provides for the cutting of approximately twice the sustained yield and 2,000,000 festmeters have been allocated for export.
