HC Deb 15 December 1947 vol 445 c287W
198. Mr. Sharp

asked the Minister of Transport what is the tare weight of the latest design of 16 tons steel mineral wagon; what is the additional amount of steel required to give the additional 2 in. in depth; and why crown loading was not regarded as adequate and more economical.

Mr. Barnes

The tare weight is 7 tons 18 cwt.; the additional 2 in. in depth is estimated to require 2 cwt. of steel. Crown loading is not considered desirable in the interests of safety and the avoidance of spillage.
