HC Deb 15 December 1947 vol 445 cc294-5W
135. Sir G. Jeffreys

asked the Minister of Works whether he is aware that in many cases, after building repair licences have been refused by the local authorities, they have been approved by his Department for an even greater sum; and whether he will take steps to reduce the extravagance and overlapping involved and to allow greater responsibility to local authorities in dealing with such matters.

Mr. Key

No. I am not aware of any recent cases of this kind. Applicants for building licences are specifically asked to disclose whether a previous application has been made. I see no reason for further extension of the responsibilities of local authorities.
