asked the Minister of Food what was the total quantity of bacon used for human consumption in the United Kingdom during the last three months for which particulars are available; how much of this was required to meet the basic civilian ration; how much was consumed in canteens and restaurants; and how the remainder was used.

Mr. Strachey

Releases of bacon from Ministry of Food stocks during September, October and November last, totalled 42,700 tons of which the domestic ration took 35,700 tons, canteens, restaurants and institutions 3,600 tons, the Fighting Services 2,500 tons, ships' stores and re-export 800 tons, and manufacturing 100 tons.
