HC Deb 04 December 1947 vol 445 c103W
89. Mr. Murray

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how many new pits were planned to be sunk in 1946 by private enterprise, and how many are now planned to be sunk by the National Coal Board; what progress has been made in each case; and where such new pits will be sunk.

Mr. Gaitskell

Information about new projects planned before nationalisation is contained in the Coalfield Regional Surveys, published at various dates in 1945 and 1946. The National Coal Board have announced that a number of new sinkings are now being planned but I have not yet received from them their programme of major developments under Section 3 (2) of the Coal Industry Nationalisation Act, 1946. This will no doubt cover information of the kind mentioned in the question.
