HC Deb 04 December 1947 vol 445 cc86-7W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Education whether his attention has been drawn to a notice issued by the Chairman of the Education Committee of the London County Council inviting women who may have leisure to teach in the Council's nursery schools, without exacting any qualifications for doing so; and whether, as this step must further discourage properly qualified teachers from undertaking this work, he will make a statement.

Mr. Tomlinson

My attention has been drawn to the letter, which does not relate to nursery school teachers but states quite properly that some women graduates, who have not had the usual course of training in teaching technique, might be found suitable for teaching infants. There is nothing in the letter to suggest that the L.C.C. are proposing to employ unqualified teachers.
