asked the Under-Secretary of State for India how many charges have, since 1st January, 1946, been brought against members of the provincial civil services and provincial police forces in India, arising out of the events of 1942; and whether he has any information regarding the 'charges, the names of the officials concerned, and the results of any trials held to date.

There have been no trials arising out of the events of 1942 since 1st January, 1946. An inquiry is, however, being held in Madras in connection with a lathi charge in Alipuram Jail in 1942.
