HC Deb 03 April 1947 vol 435 cc360-1W
97. Mr. Medland

asked the Minister of Transport if he will take steps with the railway executive to have the dirty condition of passenger carriages on main line trains, particularly the G.W.R. trains from Plymouth to London, remedied.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

The companies are doing their best to restore prewar standards of cleanliness on all routes but are handicapped by shortage of rolling stock, which reduces the time available for cleaning, and shortage of staff.
