101. Mr. H. D. Hughesasked the Minister of Defence the names of the outside experts and representatives of employers and workers appointed to the manpower inquiry committees of the Admiralty, War Office and Air Ministry, respectively; and the number of Departmental representatives on each committee.
§ Mr. AlexanderThe Air Ministry Committee consists of two outside members, a representative of the Ministry of Labour and five Air Ministry representatives, in addition to the chairman, who is Air Marshal Sir Norman Bottomley. The outside members are Mr. A. A. M. Durrant, C.B.E., Chief Mechanical Engineer of the L.P.T.B. Road Service, and Mr. E. W. Bussey, C.B.E., nominated by the T.U.C. One of the Air Ministry members is a civilian scientific expert with experience in applying operational research to problems of organisation and manning. As I informed hon. Members during the Defence Debate on 20th March, I have invited my right hon. Friends the First Lord of the Admiralty and the Secretary of State for War to set up corresponding Committees. This is now being done, but I am not yet able to announce the exact composition or the names of the outside members.
