HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 c313W
Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Minister of Food the total value and volume of imports of bitter oranges for marmalade during 1946; and if he is satisfied that these imports are sufficient to meet all requirements of bodies, such as the Women's Institutes, and also of private persons desirous of making marmalade.

Mr. Strachey

Imports of bitter oranges during 1946 amounted to 9,718 tons, valued at £278,581. Owing to severe frost and drought in the producing countries, supplies of bitter oranges which I have been able to get this season, which extends from December to March, have amounted to less than half the quantity I expected and these have unfortunately been far from sufficient to give a share to all parts of the country.
