HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 cc313-4W
58. Mr. Shawcross

asked the Minister of Food for what reason beer was imported into the United Kingdom during the three months ended 28th February at a total cost of £951,958; what kind of beer was it; and from what countries was it imported.

Dr. Summerskill

The beer in question was imported from Eire and was principally Guinness' stout. The productive capacity of the London brewery making this very popular type of beer is inadequate.
