HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 cc326-7W
97. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will draw the attention of the Government of Bermuda to the repeal of the Trades Disputes Act, 1927, in this country, and, as Clause 27 of the Bermuda Trade Union and Trades Disputes Act, 1946, contains provisions analogous to those of the British Trades Disputes Act recently repealed, if he will consider instructing the Governor to introduce legislation modifying that Clause and Clause 26 of the Bermuda Trade Union and Trades Disputes Act, 1946.

Mr. Creech Jones

As stated in my reply to my hon. Friend on 5th February, I have received representations from Bermuda regarding this legislation, in a petition addressed to me by the Bermuda Workers' Association. All Colonial Governments have already been asked to amend their legislation regarding trade unions and trade disputes, so as to conform with the repeal in this country of the Trades Disputes and Trade Unions Act, 1927, and the attention of the Governor of Bermuda has now again been drawn to this matter.
