HC Deb 29 October 1946 vol 428 cc59-60W
26. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power why his Department have done nothing with the request, dated 16th April, 1946, that the Louth County Infirmary boiler plant should be converted from coal to oil and so save fuel and end the smoke nuisance; and what steps does he propose to take in this matter.

Mr. Shinwell

The question of smoke abatement is one for the local authority concerned and the Ministry of Health. My Department's responsibility is confined to giving technical advice on any plans proposed. An inspection was made in May last of the smoke consuming equipment at this plant by my Regional Fuel Engineer and it was then operating satisfactorily. In view of the renewal of the complaint of smoke, I am arranging for a further inspection to be made.
