HC Deb 29 October 1946 vol 428 c59W
Colonel Clarke

asked the Minister of Works if he is aware that a requisitioned house known as Cannington, Mayfield, in the Uckfield rural district was transferred by the War Department to his Department as from 22nd July, 1945; that the house was used for prisoners of war but has now been unoccupied for four months; that it is suitable for conversion into flats; and, as the Uckfield Rural District Council have applied for the house to be made available for housing purposes, if he will reverse the decision of his Department to use the house for the W.L.A. who, being single persons, might well be accommodated in lodgings elsewhere.

Mr. Tomlinson

I am informed that alternative accommodation is not available for the farm workers. The work of adaptation is nearly complete and the house will be ready for occupation in a few days' time. In the circumstances I think the house must remain at their disposal.
