HC Deb 29 October 1946 vol 428 cc87-8W
Mr. Mulvey

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that an official in charge of a food control office in Northern Ireland filled a clerical post on his staff by securing an applicant through the medium of an advertisement over a box number in a local newspaper, voicing his own political views and not giving any indication in the advertisement that the vacancy was in the office of a public department; and whether such a method is in accordance with his regulations.

Mr. Strachey

I am unable to trace with certainty the advertisement to which the hon. Member refers. Perhaps he will let me have further details so that I can make further inquiries. Food executive officers are required to fill vacancies on their staffs by application to the employment exchange, but if suitable applicants are not forthcoming, a vacancy may be advertised.
