§ 99. Lord Willoughby de Eresbyasked the Secretary of State for War the age limit under which his Department will not grant a release on compassionate grounds to a soldier who is the owner or the son of the owner of a one-man business.
§ Mr. BellengerThere is no absolute age limit in these cases, but age and service are two of the many factors taken into account. There is a limit to the number of men who can be released on compassionate grounds and older men and those with longer service are regarded as having a prior claim in this connection. I would refer the noble Lord to the replies given last week to the hon. Member for Bury (Mr. W. Fletcher) of which I am sending him a copy.
