HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 c43W
Mr. W. Wells

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps are being taken to assess the suitability for its purpose of timber being imported for the housing programme.

Sir S. Cripps

Every effort is being made to buy abroad the maximum quantity of timber in specifications suitable for the housing programme, and British sawmills, converting imported German logs, are instructed to produce the largest possible amount of building sizes. Timber is distributed through merchants whose function it is in the light of their experience of such matters to sell, against licence, the timber most suitable for a particular housing requirement.
