HC Deb 24 October 1946 vol 428 c18W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that the names of Lily Dewhurst, William Dewhurst, James Woodall, 86, Embden Street, Manchester, Bertha Bates, 84, Embden Street, and Sarah Bond, 51, Parkfield Street, have been omitted from the October electors' register; if he will have these names restored to the register to enable them to vote in the November elections; and who is responsible for this error.

Mr. Oliver

The responsibility for compiling the register of electors rests on the appropriate officer of the local authority and not on my right hon. Friend, who cannot undertake to make inquiries into particular cases. In this instance, however, he has ascertained that the first four names mentioned appear on the roll of electors for the City of Manchester.
