HC Deb 24 October 1946 vol 428 c4W
53. Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Labour what is the number of his Department's entry permits that have been granted in response to applications by British housewives for nominated Austrians; and how long the process takes between the application being made to local employment exchanges and the entry permit being sent out to the Control Commission in Austria.

Mr. Isaacs

Since the permit system was re-introduced in May last nine permits have been issued to bring in Austrian domestic servants. On an average four months have elapsed between the date of application and the issue of the permit. It is hoped, by modification of the procedure, to secure some reduction of the time taken. I should explain that a permit is issued to the prospective employer here and not to the Control Commission.
