HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 c283W
62. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture when farmers in Berkshire may expect to receive the acreage payments due to them on the 1946 crops of wheat, rye and potatoes; and what proportion of payments for England and Wales had been made by 30th September this year, as compared with last year.

Mr. T. Williams

Over one-third of eligible Berkshire farmers have already been paid and up to two-thirds are expected to have been paid by the end of this month. A few days ago about 28 per cent. had not sent in their applications. For the whole of England and Wales payments had been made by 12th October on over 75 per cent. of application forms received at Oxford and on nearly 35 per cent. of those issued to farmers, as compared with nearly 73 per cent. and nearly 38 per cent. last year. Figures for 30th September are not available.
