HC Deb 21 November 1946 vol 430 c157W
117. Mr. Raikes

asked the Minister of Health whether he will consider opening the special one year intensive course for State registration to ex-Service nursing orderlies who have worked in station sick quarters and field dressing stations, in view of the shortage of trained nurses.

Mr. Bevan

Orderlies taking this course receive a remission of two years in their period of training for State registration, and one of the conditions laid down by the General Nursing Council is that they must have had two years' general nursing experience in hospitals under the supervision of trained nurses while in the Forces. Experience of the type gained in station sick quarters and field dressing stations would not of itself be adequate.
