§ Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyreasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons resident in the Channel Islands have been reported to his Department for collaboration with the Germans during the occupation; and what action is contemplated in dealing with such cases where there is prima facie evidence of collaboration.
§ Mr. EdeCommunications alleging unpatriotic behaviour on the part of a limited number of British subjects in the Channel Islands were received by my Department and by the commander of the liberating forces. Careful inquiries were made into all these allegations, of which many were found to have no basis but hearsay or suspicion. In only 12 cases was there information to suggest consideration of the question of prosecution. All these cases were submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who came to the conclusion that there were no sufficient grounds to warrant the institution of criminal proceedings.
