HC Deb 06 November 1946 vol 428 c276W
Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will provide a list showing how many native students from each Colony are at present studying at British universities.

Mr. Creech Jones

The following table shows the number of Colonial students who were studying at universities and other institutions of higher education in the United Kingdom on 31st October, 1946. The figures are taken from the register of students compiled in the Colonial Office, and the hon. Member will appreciate that in addition to these students there are a number of private students from the Colonies about whom my Department has no particulars.

Uganda include students of Indian race domiciled in those countries. The figures for African students are Kenya 3, Tanganyika 2, and Uganda 2. The figures for Palestine include students of all races domiciled in the territory.
