HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 cc201-2W
23 and 24. Mr. Hogg

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power (1) what allowances are paid to the Chairman of the National Coal Board in addition to his salary; and what is the amount of such allowances to date;

(2) why the National Coal Board does not publish allowances and other payments in addition to salary paid to its chairman.

Mr. Shinwell

Section 2 subsection (6) of the Coal Industry Nationalisation Ac+ provides that there shall be paid to the members of the Board such salaries and allowances as may be determined by the Minister, with the approval of the Treasury. I have, with the approval of the Treasury, determined that initially a global sum of 10,000 per annum should be provided for expenses of members of the Board, and that the application of this sum should be settled by the Chairman of the Board.
