§ 75. Mr. Dribergasked the Secretary of State for War why the advertisements inviting applications for engineering cadetships issued by his Department contain the stipulation that candidates must be of pure European descent; if he is aware that this stipulation has caused offence to British subjects from the Colonies and debars a number of suitable persons from applying; and if he will define the term, "pure European descent."
§ Mr. BellengerThe stipulation referred to applies to all entrants into the Regular Army for general service. The term "pure European descent" means unmixed European descent on both sides. Now that my attention has been drawn to the phrase I intend to consult my Service and Colonial colleagues.
