HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 c204W
24. Mr. D. Jones

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will give the total number of bricklayers registered in the Northern Region; how many of these men are engaged on house building and factory construction, respectively; and what steps are being taken to increase the number of bricklayers in the region.

Mr. Isaacs

In July, 1946, there were 5,660 insured bricklayers in the Northern Region. Statistics are not kept in such a way as to show for separate crafts the numbers engaged on house-building or factory construction. The principal step being taken to increase the number is the provision of training. On 21st October, 948 men were in training as bricklayers in the centres in the region.
