HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 c193W
129. Mr. Pickthorn

asked the Minister of Education which Governments have made, or are making, what monetary contributions to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

Mr. Hardman

In accordance with the constitution of the Preparatory Commission of U.N.E.S.C.O., the expenses of the maintenance of the Commission were paid by the Government of the United Kingdom during the period while the Commission was in London. The total amount of the expenditure so incurred until 18th September last, which was the date of the removal of the Commission from London, was £91,732 13s. 4d. These expenses will be deducted from the contributions of the Government of the United Kingdom to the Organisation until they have been recovered. The expenses of the Commission since its removal to Paris are being met on similar terms by the French Government. The future budget of the Organisation will be determined at the forthcoming conference in Paris, the contributions by Member States being based on the scales adopted by the United Nations.
