HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 c181W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the Report of the court of inquiry into the loss of s.s "Assuan" in October, 1943, he will consider compulsory stability tests for all ships, as recommended by the court of inquiry.

Mr. Barnes

I recognise the importance of securing that ships are provided with full stability data. I am advised that further legislation would be necessary to make this compulsory. For the present I am endeavouring by administrative measures to secure that all ships have this information.
