HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 cc188-9W
120. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Secretary of State for War whether a decision has yet been reached, between the Treasury and the Service Departments, on the repayment to prisoners of war or their relatives of sums expended in escapist activities from enemy hands during the war.

Mr. J. Freeman

In general, claims for repayments of sums expended by prisoners of war in escapist activities are dealt with on their merits according to the circumstances of the individual case. Certain special considerations apply to similar expenditure incurred on a communal basis at Stalag Luft III, but I understand that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Air hopes to convey a decision to the officers concerned in the very near future.
