HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 c169W
65. Mr. Gooch

asked the Minister of Agriculture if, in connection with afforestation schemes, he will consider the planting of suitable trees on the coast at places where the sea threatens to break through.

Mr. T. Williams

The Forestry Commission are already engaged in planting coastal sand dunes at Culbin on the Moray Firth, at Pembrey in Carmarthenshire, and on the South-West coast of Anglesey. Coast protection does not fall within the scope of the Commissioners' work, but where sufficiently large areas of sand dunes can be acquired they are prepared to afforest them.
