HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 c69W
Mr. Viant

asked the Minister of Health how many cases of smallpox came from the " Britannic "; to which hospitals were they sent; how many proved fatal; and what was the vaccinal condition of the cases.

Mr. Bevan

One case, which was taken to Fazakerley Hospital from this vessel on its arrival at Liverpool, was diagnosed as smallpox on the following day. The patient was transferred to the Port Hospital, New Ferry, where he has since died. I am informed that the vaccinal condition was unascertainable.
